Post Race

My old man’s White

My old mom’s not.

My last name gives me rights,

My skin and face do not.

I never cursed my old man,

Never winced at my tan.

I’d be able to do more with my life

If I denied who I am.

Work will crush my dad,

Unemployment my mom.

The future’s undecided for me;

I’m neither of them.
